The main positive for me, to having a boat, is you can move it. You get fed up of living in Manchester, move to Huddersfield or down to London or somewhere else on the network. If you work from home, then move anywhere you want. I saw two berths were available last month at the CRT moorings at Melbourne on the Pocklington Canal and for me, living up there would be sweet (York is about 18 miles away, Hull is about 35 mins south east, you can get to Leeds inside an hour). Perfectly quiet location away from the world. You would probably need Starlink for the internet, but if you wanted peace and quiet, it's as good as it gets.
That flexibility is the biggest selling point for me. If I was at a marina and getting stress and crap from them, i'd say fk it and i'd move somewhere else. i could fight it and with that comes massive amounts of additonal stress. But I am getting older and wiser, so i would just say fk the stress and i'd be gone. But I work as a contractor and have structured my life so i can up and go at will. If you are stuck in a job that won't allow flexibility then it would be harder, but not impossible. I'd love to know which marina the OP is at, so I can add them to my shitlist of places to be avoided.
