UK Curaleaf International Launches CPD-Accredited Education Platform for UK Cannabis Prescribers

Curaleaf International has launched a free CPD-accredited online education platform for UK healthcare professionals to help close the training gap the country’s professional medical community continues to face.

Despite estimates suggesting the UK now has some 60,000 active medical cannabis patients, no official structured learning is available for those wanting to educate themselves on treatment.

Curaleaf International is now hoping to fill that gap with its free, newly launched Curaleaf Education Platform, based on real-world prescribing data from its UK Medical Cannabis Registry, the largest clinical database of its kind with records from more than 55,000 patients, translating outcomes data into practical clinical guidance rather than theoretical frameworks.

The curriculum will focus on three core pillars, including foundational science covering phytocannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system, core clinical knowledge spanning formulations, safety and prescribing management, and advanced modules on pain, neurology and psychiatry.

Completion awards CPD accreditation that can be applied retrospectively, enabling GPs, consultant-level clinicians and pharmacists to log prior professional development in the field.

Medical cannabis has been prescribable in the UK since 2018, yet, despite being one of the most important regulatory systems in human physiology, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) remains absent from almost all mainstream medical education.

This has constrained both prescriber confidence and patient access, even as the licensed market has matured over eight years.

“I regularly speak with GPs and consultants who want to have informed conversations with their patients about medical cannabis, but simply haven’t had the training,” said Dr Simon Erridge, Research Director at Curaleaf Clinic.

“Medical school curricula haven’t caught up with the regulatory reality; cannabis-based medicines have been legal for six years, yet the endocannabinoid system gets barely a mention in most medical degrees.”

Juan Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of Curaleaf International, added: “Education is the foundation of responsible access. Every clinician we equip with evidence-based training becomes a more confident, capable prescriber.”

According to Curaleaf, there are plans to extend the platform to additional international markets following the UK launch.
