Most of us were regulars in the BM or legacy market before moving over to medical. I’m curious how many people still dip into both.

Every now and then I still come across proper blue cheese from a friend of a friend who grows for medical reasons himself. It’s exactly what you remember, strong, stinky blue cheese. No different to what we were smoking years ago. It definitely reeks, but blue cheese has always been one of those loud strains anyway.

People often say medical is “muted”, but I’m not sure that still holds as strongly as it did a few years ago. The quality gap feels a lot smaller now, at least in what I’m seeing.

When I pick up things like lemon haze or MAC, nothing top shelf, I sometimes find myself questioning whether we are just romanticising BM weed based on memory and nostalgia. The MAC I get on the street does not really smell any stronger than the MAC I get through medical. Some lemon hazes have a slightly more noticeable citrus edge, but overall the difference in loudness is not that big.

It is starting to feel like we label medical as muted because we are comparing it to an idealised version of BM weed, the “best” bits we remember.

Outside of a few standout strains like blue cheese, I am not really seeing huge differences in smell or intensity anymore. What are you seeing?

I remember when I was like 20 and at least here home grown wasnt really a thing, people would say ah home grown is shit no touching that etc. Similar to what you hear about medical. But I knew a couple of people that grew and it was some of the best stuff Ive smoked at the time. northen lights, sensi star.
Maybe just market here not so great but its mostly dawg some "flavours" around but they dont seem any better than the "medical" versions.
I had heard the muted or hay smell stuff and have been more than surprised with medical ive gotten over the past year.

Sometimes people to set in there ways or hear someone they trust speak negatively about a thing and just accept it at face value.

Most of the easily available BM stuff around here is dire, badly cured and dusted with god-knows-what. The better BM stuff here is hard to get and always under weight. I gave up cannabis 20 years ago when I quit tobacco before being prescribed MC this year. A few friends still buy BM flower, its a bit like the BM is engraved in the culture of cannabis. They'll moan about getting crap flower or being short changed but deeply distrust the whole medical records thing. Some find it too much hassle to go through the application process, and I can understand this given the effort it took to get my SCR from the doctors which was further complicated by me opting out of medical data sharing many years ago.

Then there's the BM itself. I'm very happy to get safe and tested MC delivered to my door by a friendly postie but there's constant background noise from the BM trying to undermine MC, its big money so to be expected IMO. When I hear youtubers whinging about MC I tend to assume they are parroting their local BM, or have interests in seeing the popularity of MC reduced. Most of this noise is about terpenes/flavour/moisture content/genetics etc. Effects are what is important to me and I suspect most MC users, I find it hilarious when tubers sniff the bag and say "don' bother", cracks me up ;)

The entourage /ensemble effects far far outdo any benefits to just cannabinoids which without the smelly terpenes is one dimensional and short lasting ,

THC isolate is not the best medicine as full spectrum imo is superior to it by 100 mile. THC without terpenes will downregulate your cb 1 receptors to a very not theraputic level but dont get me wrong that narrow neural pathway can resonate with patients but i personally dont like to hit a ceiling with my meds.

Theres fuc*ery in both MC and bm , should be alot less fuc*ery going on in MC to be honest but loads of info about it , testing n COA imo laughable but in alot of instances safer than bm.

The standards for good theraputic cannabis comes down to terpene % but subjective , rather than over 30% THC as i take you will be a fan but low THC high terp can be more theraputic than high THC strain or even 90% disty , yes 17% skunk 1 with terpenes alot more theraputic than 90% THC for me.

Chemotype over everything for me and to dial in a cure for terpene preservation over THC stability now anyone can preserve THC drier= more THC for them. Terpene preservation is the biggest skill and best theraputic expression of cannabis ever , thiols other flavourants another skillset trying to introduce with r&d genetics then preserving them in final product. Fresh is best always will be.

I only use low THC strains. Personally I don't see any effects from strain to strain that I could attribute to terp profiles, but there may be benefits for users who have different medical needs than me. That's my point, being dismissive of a strain because the smell is muted is of no value for a patient who sees no benefit from terp profiles. It would be very interesting to see just what percentage of MC users have any concern for terp profiles. Perhaps that is where the terpines crusade should have started. My next order is going to include Apricot & Cream Cheese, I'll report back.

As for fresh is best, yes, I'd really enjoy being able to grow my own legally and be responsible for my own medication, no irradiation and for it to be organic. But I don't think making terpenes a banner for this campaign is a good thing, personal safety, decriminalisation and dismantling of the cannabis BM should be. Tipping money to a dealer for risk needs to be a thing of the past.

By you using low THC strains and not interested in terpenes id say defo minority you are in. Should every reviewer think that they cant have own opinion because it doesnt agree with your usage and tolerance. Js medi lounge yer getting it and his demographic is users that know terpy strains and alot been part of the culture that gave this machine their genetics.

If Medicann is overlooking terpenes as an effect negative or positive then bad clinic and should be educated on them imo but i think its you that dont want to know and looking as if not an effect , Alot of my m8s didnt have a clue about terpenes n couldnt tell the difference between stoned n high , enter terpinolene trainwreck 🤣🤢.

Id love to see you do a review , gd insight n superb palate makes the best breeders and reviewers. Why is there terpene profiles at all then is MedBud, clinics, breeders.

There is a reason a canadian rec market took away alot of patients from med market and same will happen here , yes thats correct terpenes = more theraputic weed , If they preserve terpenes in ukmc they could not lose as much as canada jst simple.

Theres alot more to food than protein and energy but if a kebab is bland dry n tasteless then dont bova as j says as its lacking yes terpenes lol.

Dont worry its all about getting enantiometer mirror molecules patented and on market then patients who are into effects over terpenes can be really happy about biomass gone cos it will be real meds to some but not most.

TERPENES ARE THE STANDARD NOT THC !! Standards are bad and the terpiest tastiest medical canna sells for more and fast that says alot . The industry hates terpenes but community loves them , im a community man at heart

Healthy debate is what makes a community valuable, people will inevitably disagree on strains, terpenes, THC, clinics, research, personal experiences and that's absolutely fine.

What isn't acceptable is turning those disagreements into personal digs, sarcasm aimed at other members, mocking someone's preferences or experience, challenge the opinion, not the person..

Everyone uses medical cannabis differently, has different tolerances, and values different aspects of their treatment, respecting those differences is what keeps discussions constructive and welcoming for everyone 🙂

Please keep conversations civil, stay on topic, and debate the subject rather than each other, leaving the personal remarks out of it.

Let's keep the forum a place where everyone feels comfortable sharing their experiences, regardless of whether others agree with them.

Soz catweazle for using the word daft was defo not meant as a personal insult in any way , maybe i should try debate with a little bit of humour than anything else , i value yer opinion on here even if i do not agree and understand angle coming from. ✌️
Appreciate it mate, thank you 🫡

I feel a fairly huge gap in overall therapeutic effects may exist in some circumstances, this is what needs to be looked at for an undiscriminatory legal system to operate sucessfully and be popular enough to accepted by the majority who still seek BM

Yeah its huge for a wide range of conditions and hard to find good theraputic strains that potentiate THC. Less strains better quality n real cuts used could suit both.

I gave up on BM - it was dry as a camels ar*e and wouldn't get a ferret minced. MC is more expensive as we're all aware, but I know what I'm getting so I can buy what works for me and not just what that dodgy bloke with the staffy has in a plastic tub under the kitchen counter.

I think nostalgia definitely plays a part. People tend to remember the best batches they ever had and forget all the average or disappointing stuff. I've had medical that's surprisingly good and BM that's nothing special. At this point I think it comes down more to the individual grower or batch than whether it's medical or BM.

Welcome to MedBud @Gregorys

I think that's a really fair and well balanced view, can't really argue with it imo.

Most of what I had over the years was what my friend would have termed Mexican weed. it was basically bottom of the barrel. Occasionally a friend would hook me up with better stuff. Lots of Blueberry Haze did the rounds for a couple of years and whoever grew it was doing it organically. Not sprayed, really well cut, perfect level stuff and not crazy expensive. The only other stuff I used to like was good quality hash, which i would buy quite a lot of. When i was in Wales, when younger that was where you got a lot of the premo grade stuff. Stuff where a blunt lasted a week because after two hits on it, you'd be hitting the deck. Some of the heaviest stuff I had was at a UB40 / The Wailers concert. Bob Marley's brother was passing a J around and that stuff was super premium good. not crazy put you on the floor, but mellow and it increased perception and appreciation of music. It buffed sensory so nicely and no crazy body load with it.

I've not had stuff like that on Med, but it's not bad stuff either. I suspect hybridisation is a chunk of the problem, causing weakened genetics. I prefer purer strains or maybe Hybrids based on mixing pure strains. Not that there are many of those in the MC catalogue.

If you can find the best BM, organic living soil grown then IME that's been better than the best MC, but most people aren't getting that on the BM.

I could rarely find any reasonable consistency on BM. Could be dry, could be weak, could be sprayed, could taste like ass. In the last few years I had a solid contact but as reliable as he was, it was nothing special, just boring mid-weed. People bash MC for running out of strains, but do you really believe you got the same genetics and plants from BM when ordering 3 months later?

I knew a guy who was basically just buying big bags of crappy bud from Senegalese dealers, then call it either cheese or lemon haze and sold it for an extra £100 per ounce to the posh kids who did not want to venture into the rough parts of the city. He had no idea what was in that bag ever, and I am sure some of those kids are still telling stories about the awesome mid noughties Bristol Cheese lol
