I go to a fair few gigs and have been testing the waters for MC use.

Please share your experience and I’ll update this list. Feel free to add more info and I can edit etc. I’ll add the type of medication I had when visiting.

Friendly:
Roundhouse Camden (Flower, Solo2)
02 Brixton ( Curaleaf Cart)

Unfriendly:

Adding to post above, I went to see Soulwax at O2 Brixton last night with my buddy and went in with just my vape and car key. The security guard smelt my vape then went to take it to his supervisor. I took it back off him, told him it was MC at which point his supervisor came over.

He couldn’t have been more polite. I showed him the box for the vape and my driving license and he was perfectly happy to let me in. He asked that I use the smoking area when it opened but it was ok inside. Also he said if I get any problems tell them to speak to front of house security.

Brilliant!

Im old and dont get to live music anymore, used to go 2 3 4 times a week for many years always got oiled prior to entry,my question is" smoking areas inside," ooh is this right, any other venues smoking allowed.Be nice to have a list of smoking allowed uk venues.

I worked until recently in the Drug & Alcohol recovery space (Operations Director for a Recovery org), every year we have a mass meet up in Scotland, known as the recovery walk, loads live bands etc, around 5 to 6K turn up each year.
Loads of police, who are actually there to stop anyone giving us hassle, they keep a respectful distance and have been great the last few years. Air was thick with smoke (outside!), not a single copper batted a eyelid! A few even remarked they wish all events were so well behaved.

Security were a bit uptight, but nobody paid any attention to them

Add the Albert Hall to the friendly list.

The security said they’d prefer it if I used it outside but in the middle of the dance floor no one batted an eyelid.

Thanks Queen Vic!

Since I started MC in June last year, I've taken vapes, with extra carts, prescriptions, etc., into:

The O2 Arena
Electric Ballroom Camden
The New Cross Inn
Wembley Arena
The 100 Club
Here at Outernet
Scala
Camden Underworld
Rough Trade East
O2 Academy Islington
O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire
Alexandra Palace
Bush Hall
The Finsbury
The Hawley Arms
O2 Academy Brixton and
The Spice of Life

Most of these have been on multiple occasions, and I've never had an issue. I'm probably forgetting a couple to be honest. Brixton even let me use the medical room because the queue was too long to get into the vaping area.

I know that Crystal Palace Park is cool with it too, because they have an MC section in their accessibility FAQs.

I've been to plenty of comedy spaces and theatres too, if anyone wants a list of those.

I always email venue I'm going to before hand by their Access email and get added to list. This way I get zero problems with security as they know I'm coming and bring MC.
Most the time on large venue will have a Paramedic on hand to check scrip. I also have paper copy of scrip as I'm not handing my phone over.

O2 Academy Brixton - Access and disability provision - To add was first asked to Vape out side to leave the building. Not going to happen I vape in my seat or if downstairs on flat were I stand. Your well in your right to medicate in building and not leave. Been going Academy since 1989.

Nah the manager will take your meds away and store it somewhere in her safe whilst you are there. Ive seen lots of people hitting carts inside but they are not ok with flower and dry herb vaping.

Roundhouse told me they were going to do that. I told them firmly no, they are licensed to me and them taking it off me makes them contraband.

In the end I vaped at the side of the stage with security during the set. :)

I’m off to the London Stadium for Metallica next month. Will I have problems with a cart?

Hay Bayo

I been sending emails back n forward with London Stadium I'm also going to see Metallica.

I've been sending emails since last year!

They told me I need to leave the Stadium and the island! It's ridiculous if going to watch West Ham play I can take MC and vape on ground but a music gig no MC.

I'm still trying get understand the law.
I don't know about carts.

York Barbican reckons they're
[q] The York Barbican allows legally prescribed medicines and recognizes accessibility needs. Because the venue enforces strict bag policies (nothing larger than 35cm x 40cm x 19cm) and restricts food, drinks, and liquids, you should contact the venue or their ticketing partner in advance to arrange a medical exemption [/q], I went to see a C*ck Sparrer gig there last December and there was a big board stating they were med friendly at the end of the security queue, I was recreational at the time so stashed mine outside. :D

The Dome - tuffnell park

Dropped a courtesy email informing them I'll be bringing MC
Absolutely fine, they do like an email before you go just so they can keep staff aware someone will have MC on them

Ally pally

Another great venue for MC users, absolutely fine just get a medical pass and use the accessible entrance

Again, vaping outside permitted, just make security aware and you're all good

Remind them if they do, they will be in breach of the equality act and you will report them to the local council licensing board for harassment and discrimination against a person with disabilities.

I go with: Nice word, firm word, small stick, big stick, WMD. Most places i've had issue with, the first two prevail, occasionally some jobsworth pushes it to three and if someone was to take my MC off me, that would be four (Police / theft of controlled substance). Final option has never been used.

I'll add this basically comes down to training. If you have top notch, well trained operatives, who know the law and how to apply it, there will be no problem. If you have some know it alls without any training, then you have issues. Most big places have staff training in every possible contingency (they have to due to terrorism concerns and all the laws governing venues), they have high level industry security that know what they are doing and have the training and knowledge. if they don't know, they forward the question to their superior and they will usually know.

Off topic London Stadium are not interested it's almost our place our rule. I send links to the Government website to show MC is legal.
No reply other then I have to leave Stadium and the Island.

Will look into report them to the local council licensing board for harassment and discrimination against a person with disabilities. After gig

So i'm not sure if this is right, but London Stadium is possibly under Newham Council. You will know better than me I guess. but if it is, then try this email.

[email protected]

Or send a letter. Personally I prefer a letter as it is much more formal and generally harder hitting than an email. You can also cc in the venue and if you really wanted cc in a solicitor. Depends what size stick you want to beat them with. Licensing and venue is probably a good start. Once they know you are making a formal complaint to the councils licensing department and they will maybe have to explain to licensing why they are breaking the law, which might end with their license being revoked, it will most likely, magically get sorted out. You could also, should you want to make their life even more uncomfortable, post to their social media about discrimination against people with disabilities. The more you spread the word, the quicker someone checks the law and realises they are heading up shit creek.

It's up to you how far you go.

Manchester academy 2 have said MC can't be used on the premises, only the designated smoking area. Contact the venue before the gig, making them aware that you may have some MC with you & they will tell their security team. You'll need to send a screenshot of your prescription and take photo ID to the gig.
